Publication Ethics

The Czech Historical Review adheres to the highest standards of editorial and author conduct, as well as the recommended procedures of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) for editors, authors, reviewers, the editorial board, and transparency principles that align with the principles of international organisations supporting sound practice in the field of scholarly publication (COPE, DOAJ, OASPA, WAME).

Editors’ duties and responsibilities

  • research articles have undergone peer review, based on initial editor review and anonymized refereeing by at least two anonymous referees.
  • the editor is responsible for deciding which of the articles submitted to the journal should be published. He is guided by the internal policies of the journal's Editorial Office and by actual legal requirements.
  • the editor evaluates manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to gender, race, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin or political conviction of the author/authors.
  • the editor must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than author, reviewers, potential reviewers, members of the Editorial Office and responsible employees of the publisher.
  • the editor must not used a unpublished manuscript in own research without the explicit written consent of the author(s).
  • the editor will be guided by COPE’s Guidelines for Retracting Articles when considering retracting and issuing corrections pertaining to articles that have been published.

Scientific Board members’ duties and responsibilities

  • to participate in Scientific Board meetings;
  • to contribute to the development of the journal, act as ambassadors for the journal, support and promote the journal;
  • to seek high-standard authors;
  • to support free speech and a plurality of views;
  • to oversee compliance with the rules of the journal.

Reviewers’ duties and responsibilities 

  • reviewers assists the editor in making editorial decisions and may also assist in improving the manuscript.
  • reviewer who feels unqualified to review the manuscript should notify the editor, whereby will be exclude from peer review process.
  • any manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shown to or discussed with others except persons authorized by the editor.
  • reviews have to elaborated objectively. Subjective evaluation is inappropriate and reviewers should supprt their views with arguments.
  • reviewers should call to the editor’s attention any relevant published work that has not been cited by the author(s). Reviewers should also call to the editor’s attention any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published works of which they have personal knowledge.
  • All information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage. Reviewers should not consider evaluating manuscripts in which they have any conflicts of interest.
  • It is the responsibility of the reviewers to adhere to the agreed deadline for the preparation of the review assessment.

Authors’ duties and responsibilities

  • Authors presents an accurate account of their original research. Manuscript should contain sufficient details and references to permit others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior.
  • Authors ensure that they have written entirely original works. If the authors have used the works and/or conclusions of others that this has been appropriately cited or quoted. Authors have to cite or quote all used works.
  • Authors should not in general publish manuscript of identical content in more than one journal. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal is considered unethical.
  • It is the responsibility of the authors to collaborate with the Editorial Office in the event that reviewers propose revisions. It is also their responsibility to submit their paper in standard English, free of grammatical, spelling, punctuation, and other errors, according to publication standards and academic best practices. Additionally, it is expected that all relevant sources are duly cited, and that the rules outlined in the Instructions to Authors are followed.
  • Authors are required to disclose the source of funding and any potential conflict of interest.
