Abstrakt: The main topic of the study is the examination and description of the credit transactions of courtiers at the court of Emperor Rudolph II in Prague (he ruled as the King of Bohemia in the years 1576–1611). For the research oriented in this manner, the example was selected of two well-known personalities of the Rudolph II court, successful in their fields, being imperial builder Ulrico Aostalli de Sala († May 10, 1597) and imperial antiquary Ottavio Strada da Rossberg († before September 6, 1606). In both cases, these were courtiers of Italian origin who came to Prague at a young age, and whose entire subsequent professional and personal lives were connected with the city and service to the Habsburg family. Both of them also died in Prague, and their descendants remained settled in the country for several more generations. Finance did not represent either of their main livelihoods, at least initially, regardless of their success in it; rather, it constituted a supplementary activity. The study, based on primary sources, attempts to describe the social anchoring of each of them in the court and city environment, and to map in detail the nature of their financial activities. The aim of the text is also to capture some more general characteristics of these financial relationships, developing in Rudolph-era Prague between the court and city environment, and often also the Jewish community.
