Abstrakt: The study presents a corpus analysis of contemporary Czech journalism (using the SYN corpus, version 12, a part of the Czech National Corpus), with a particular emphasis on a selected group of choronyms, specifically, the names of regions that are related to adjectives derived from settlement place names. These include pairs of variant region namings, such as Bojkovicko – Bojkovsko (from the place name Bojkovice, adjective forms bojkovický – bojkovský), where one variant is considered a standard version and the other a non-standard one (dialectal or regional). The aim of the study is to examine how these forms behave in text, whether they differ in terms of frequency, representation in various types of journalism, and semantics (content and scope of reference to the object). The research employs methods of quantitative linguistics, including frequency and collocation analysis, combined with interdisciplinary approaches to the cartographic presentation of linguistic data. This study highlights the potential of onomastics for researching the symbolic aspects of regions.
