Abstrakt: One of the characteristic features of the national movements of the Orthodox South Slavic peoples, which influenced the dynamics of social changes of the time, is the long-term absence of printers. For this reason, especially in the first stages of the so-called national revival, most books and periodicals from the Bulgarian or Serbian countries could be printed in typographies outside their homeland. More prominent centers ensuring the printing of South Slavic book production thus appeared in the cities of multinational empires, especially in Vienna, Buda / Pest and Constantinople. In addition to these centers, South Slavic books were also published in several smaller towns, where the availability of a technical equipment for publishing was a key factor. For the representatives of the cultural elites of the Orthodox Balkans, the use of these printing centers “abroad” was the only possibility to publish their works. In the sense of book production published outside “the homeland”, a term “revival tamizdat” is offered for consideration. The term assumes a semantic expansion of the original meaning of the word tamizdat. Tamizdat is traditionally understood as the book culture that arose during the times of the Soviet Union outside its borders, was brought to the homeland illegally, and its distribution was also illegal. In the sense of books published abroad, i.e. “there” – outside the homeland, the revivalist meaning of the concept seems relevant. Therefore, in the context of the development tendencies of the book culture of the Orthodox societies of the Slavic Balkans in the 19th century, the study tries to offer theoretical concepts of revival tamizdat as a specific term that participates in defining not only Slavic cultural emigration, but also the variability in the perception of the borders between the homeland and abroad.
