Abstrakt: The article investigates possible causes for the disappearance of High and Late Medieval settlements in the Czech Lands, in cases where a church was preserved in the cadastre of the original village (settlement) and continued to be used for religious rites. In modern historiography, the Hussite Wars or the consequences of the Thirty Years’ War are stereotypically cited as the reasons for such situations, but the actual spectrum of explanations for the decline of the settlements is much wider.
