Abstrakt: This article examines the contribution of Polish writer Bartoloměj Paprocký (c. 1540–1614) to the construction of noble identity in Bohemia and Moravia. Focusing on his major works, Zrcadlo and Diadochos, the study explores how Paprocký utilized genealogy, heraldry, and humanist virtues to glorify the local aristocracy. He emphasized ancient, often fabricated lineages, military merit against the Ottomans, and civic service to validate the prestige of his patrons. Although his approach lacked critical historical accuracy, prioritizing narrative glorification over fact, Paprocký’s work remains a crucial source for understanding the self-perception and social strategies of the early modern nobility during a period of significant transformation.
