Abstrakt: The study deals with the interpretation of the Latin work of Bohuslav Balbín Diva Montis Sancti (1665), describing the Marian cult at Svatá Hora near Příbram, and its appendices. The second shorter appendix of Diva Montis Sancti, called Auctuarium II, is historical-genealogical and presents the history of the Knights of Malovice, the patrons of Svatá Hora. The origins of Svatá Hora are connected to a legend about a M alovec knight that founded and dedicated the chapel to St. Mary, and he named the locality out of gratitude for being saved from bandits. According to Balbín, the miraculous statue of St. Mary came from the Prague archbishop Arnošt of Pardubice, whom he connects to the house of Malovec. Balbín also emphasizes the financial support the family provided to Svatá Hora and to the creation of the Babín’s book. Balbín thus became a proponent of the opinion that the knights of Pardubice and Malovice had a common origin based on the story that circled within the Malovec family. Arnošt of Pardubice is introduced as the main spiritual adviser to Balbín’s beloved King and Emperor Charles IV, thus constituting the main source of pride for the houses of Pardubice and Malovec. Balbín efforts to put into the collection of materials supporting Arnošt’s canonization were in vain.
