Abstrakt: The study deals with the methodological and ethical challenges of writing historical biographies about living or recently deceased personalities who were politically active and are still in the living memory of the potential readers. Using the examples of the biographies of Henry Kissinger, Margaret Thatcher, and Václav Havel, the author analyses how the relationship between the author and the research subject affects the credibility, objectivity, and reception of the work. He shows that the key factor of a quality biography is not only the researcher’s distance, but above all the transparent reflection of the author’s relationship to the personality and the open communication of this relationship to the reader.
